IGNOU claims 99 pc transactions cashless

A day after government launched a nation-wide campaign for spreading digital financial literacy to various strata of people, IGNOU today said it carries 99 per cent of its transaction through digital mode and is also introducing debit cards for its students.
In a statement, the Delhi-based Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) said it carries cashless transactions for various purposes like paying salaries to permanent as well as contractual workers, among others.
Initially powered by Union Bank of India, IGNOU will also issue debit card to its students at the time of admission for carrying out financial transactions, it added.
The University has also decided to enlist the support of at least 100 students per regional centre as eKranti volunteers for the digital financial literacy.
Meanwhile, IIT Bhubaneshwar has also informed the Human Resource Ministry that it has being doing online transactions, digital payment to vendors, suppliers, contractors, among others.
