In a first for NE region, Meghalaya to hold National Conference on e-Governance

The 22nd National Conference on e-Governance will be held here in Meghalaya on August 8 and 9, in a first for the north-eastern region to organise the knowledge sharing event.

The two-day event would provide considerable momentum to e-Governance initiatives in the region, providing opportunities to civil servants and others to showcase their successful interventions in improving end-to-end service delivery, V Srinivas, the additional secretary, the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, said.

The theme of the conference is 'Digital India: Success to Excellence'.

It provides a platform to disseminate knowledge on effective methods of designing and implementing sustainable e-Governance initiatives to provide end-to-end digital services, exchange experiences in solving problems, mitigating risks, resolving issues and planning for success, P S Thangkhiew, the chief secretary of Meghalaya, said here.

The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), in association with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Meghalaya government will organise the 22nd National Conference.

This is the first time the event is being organized in the north-eastern region of the country, Srinivas said.

The conference at Shillong is part of the DARPG's 100 days initiatives.

Discussions will be held on five sub-themes in plenary sessions during the conference. Four breakout sessions will be held on the sub-themes.

As many as 28 states and eight Union Territories have confirmed their participation in the two-day conference in which over 450 delegates are expected to participate.

An exhibition will also be held at the event to showcase India's achievements in the field of e-Governance, along with a hall of fame/photo exhibition on the award winners.

The conference would be inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma and Jitendra Singh, the minister of state (independent charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.

Hamletson Dohling, the Meghalaya's minister of IT and Communication and the Urban Affairs Department would also address the inaugural session.

About 15 states would be presenting their IT initiatives and success stories in the breakout sessions.
