India Carpet Expo inaugurated in Varanasi

The 28th India Carpet Expo was inaugurated here today by Sanjay Kumar Panda, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Saumitra Chaudhuri from Ministry of Finance.
The four day expo is taking place at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University ground here.
The Union Government is working on modifying the current textiles policy on the demands of carpet exporters,craftsman and people associated with this sector, Panda told reporters here.
The government has constituted an expert committee to review the national textiles policy of 2000, he said, adding that currently it is year 2014 ,where a lot of changes have occurred in this sector in all these years ,whereby there is a need to modify this textiles policy.

Around 400 carpet importers from 57 countries mainly from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, UK, US among others have registered to attend the expo here and nearly 283 participants have booked the space to showcase and sell their products in the expo, said Kuldeep R Wattal, chairman of CEPC.
The CEPC is currently giving subsidy of USD 750 to buyers from USA, Canada, Latin American Countries and South Africa and USD 500 to buyers from all other countries towards air travel expenses and providing 2 nights complimentary stay in hotel at Varanasi for attending India Carpet Expo here, said Wattal, adding, CEPC expects presence of more than 400 buyers in this expo.
