India need a second formidable doubles pair: Jwala

Ace shuttler Jwala Gutta today said India is in dire need of second formidable doubles pair after her and Ashwini Ponnappa in order to pose serious challenge at the team championships.
"We have long been talking about this, the country needs a second women's doubles pair after me and Ashwini. The pair who can substitute us in tough times and also be talented enough to win medals for India," said Jwala on the sidelines of the Indian School Badminton League here today.
Jwala's comments came after India's debacle in the recently concluded Uber Cup in Japan, where duo of Jwala-Ashwini failed after putting up a brave fight. The country could not find another doubles combo for the semi-finals against Japan when the tie went to the deciding fifth match. And the Indian Contingent had no choice but to field the top singles players in Sauna Nehwal and P V Sindhu.

Jwala, meanwhile, expressed hope of her and Ashwini winning a medal for India her in the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 3.
"I am happy that we are doing good before the tournament and we are really hopeful about it (winning a medal)," said Jwala.
