"India would require skilled professionals across industries to cope with the rising workforce demand. The government's initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, Swachh Bharat and Smart City, the country may need nearly 400,000 project managers," PMI India MD Raj Kalady said.
He was speaking at the PMI India National Conference here. The three-day Project Management National Conference, India 2016 organised and hosted by PMI Mumbai Chapter and co-hosted by PMI Pune-Deccan Chapter, commenced here today.
"The government and the industry need to adopt global standards in project management, build transparent and trustworthy relationships with the concerned stakeholders, cultivate project management talent and employ sustainable policies for the long-term benefit," he said.
"The report thus aims to impact the entire process positively by helping the government address the identified concerns using project management," he added.
The government's move to demonetise the currency will help in improving the confidence of the investors, who want to ensure that various projects complete without any delays and within the allocated budget, he said.
The conference theme 'Project Management-Indispensable for Vision India' builds on enhancing project management skills to realise India's vision to become a developed nation.
The conference provides a platform for project management practitioners across industries, government, NGOs and academia to exchange ideas on the challenges and opportunities in managing projects that will help translate a vision of India into reality, Kalady said.
