IndianHigh Commissioner Y K Sinha highlighted the importance of India's Constitution Day while drawing parallels between India's Constitution drafting process and the Lankan process current ly underway.
Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of Constitution of India.
On this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, and it came into effect on 26 January 1950.
Sinha said itincluded issues such as the relationship between the centre and states, sharing of resources and separation of powers between the legislature, judiciary and executive.
These issues have much resonance in the current Sri Lankan context of Constitution-making, Sinha said.
The process to replace the existing 1978 Constitution got underway in January this year when parliament was converted into a Constitutional Assembly.
The Constitutional Assembly is to meet in December again to consider the reports of six sub committees.
