India sends 21,000 kilo litres of petrol to Sri Lanka

India today sent an emergency shipment of 21,000 kilo litres of petrol to Sri Lanka which is facing a shortage of the fuel.
External affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the shipment was sent from Paradip in Odisha and is expected to reach Trincomalee port in Sri Lanka in a day.
"The supplies have left Paradip today, with 21,000 kilo litres and is expected to reach Trincomalee port in a day. Additional supplies are available at Kochi if so needed," he said.
In a telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday had conveyed to Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena that India is sending petroleum supply to the island nation.

The Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) on Tuesday received flak for the fuel shortage after motorists lined up in long queues at petrol stations.
But the company dismissed as "mischievous and factually incorrect" the allegations that it was responsible for the fuel shortage in the island nation.
