"Bangladesh wants to start buying power from December 16, to mark the country's Bijoy Diwas (Victory day). The decision to sell power from the 726 MW gas-based thermal power project at Palatana was finalized on Wednesday in a joint meeting of the officials of India and Bangladesh in New Delhi," state Power Minister Manik Dey said.
However, he said the meeting could not finalise the tariff even after intensive discussion by both sides. Later, it was decided that power tariff would be finalized in another meeting to be held in Dhaka in the first week of next month.
The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has been tasked to erect high power transmission line from Suryamaninagar here to South Commilla in Bangladesh and the work is expected to be completed by November.
"There is no doubt that selling of power to power-starved Bangladesh could be beneficial for Tripura as it is a power surplus state now," he said.
