India, US held talks to facilitate greater technology sharing: Govt

India and the US held talks on Industrial Security Annex to the existing agreement concerning General Security Measures for Protection of Classified Military Information (GSOMIA) to facilitate greater technology sharing between companies of the two countries, the government said today.
Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha on whether the US military firms desired greater security of classified defence information in India for joint venture, Minister of State in the Defence Ministry Subhash Bhamre responded in affirmative.
"India and the US have held discussions on Industrial Security Annex to the existing Agreement Concerning Security Measures for Protection of Classified Military Information (GSOMIA) signed in 2002 to facilitate greater technology sharing between companies of the two countries," he said in a written response.

He added that such agreements for protection of high-end technologies would encourage greater participation of the US companies in defence industrial activities in India.
Under the Make in India programme, the thrust has also been on transfer of technology from foreign companies.
