Indian filmmaker Khushboo Ranka is taking her two projects, "Right to Pray", a documentary in the medium of Virtual Reality, and political thriller "An Insignificant Man" to the coveted Toronto International Film Festival.
"An Insignificant Man" co-directed by Vinay Shukla, is about the spectacular rise of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from a social activist to a politician.
"Right to Pray" takes inspiration from the recent controversy that erupted after a few women activists were not allowed to enter Shani Shingnapur temple despite the Bombay Hight Court upholding women's right to enter Hindu temples across Maharashtra.
"I am an atheist but I was drawn to this story , and I wondered why I cared if women were not being allowed in the sanctum sanctorium? I kept thinking about what was motivating these women. They wanted to touch, consecrate and author sacredness for themselves," Khushboo said in a statement here.
"They were facing intense resistance from some very decent people. Is this where it all begins then? If 'God' doesn't want to be touched by women, and prefers the 'purity of men', it is only natural for people to follow suit and do the same in their own homes and families," she said.
"Right to Pray" is part of the first batch of VR documentaries made in India. It has been produced by Vinay. TIFF will begin on September 8 and go till September 18.
