India can use technological advantages of third industrial revolution of information, communication and technology (ICT) for transforming the country, UIDAI Chairman Nandan Nilekani said today.
"The third industrial revolution, the rise of computer, software, internet is actually a huge leverage for transforming India today...Technology now related with cost of running a society is very very cheap," Nikelani said.
He was delivering public lecture on 'India and the Third Industrial Revolution' hosted by the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
Nilekani said technology can be scaled up rapidly and now it is ubiquitous also as everybody is connected through it.
He said technologies such as cloud computing can be used to deliver social services more effectively as it will help store the individual data more secure and safe.
"With internet we can build a system where every body's records can be kept safely and securely on the cloud. Whenever you want your health records and now because technology is cheap, every ultrasound, every x-ray of yours can be kept," he said.
He said the cost of technology is dropping every day, computing is becoming very cheap and connectivity is getting more and more easier.
However, Nikelani said that India's system of governance needs to be designed according to the mobile nature of people so that they can access their data from anywhere.
"Our system of governance has not been designed in accordance with the mobile nature of a person. If data is stored on a cloud, it could be accessed from anywhere," he added.
