'Information about NE should be included in school curriculum'

Extensive information about Northeast region should be included in school curriculum to create an awareness about the seven-sister states, said the sister of Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania who died after allegedly being assaulted by shopkeepers here.
"The Government, through the HRD ministry, should make it mandatory for all the education boards in the country to prepare a curriculum on Northeast region, depicting our geographical location, people and culture," said Lulu Tania.
She was addressing a gathering during an event titled 'What ails our northeast policy? The corrections 'Delhi' needs' organised here yesterday.
In the meeting, the speakers, a chunk representing Northeast student unions in Delhi, also sought the media to play a key role in highlighting the issues concerning people of their region.

Lulu Tania underlined that people in other parts of the country should acknowledge the culture of people in the Northeast region of India.
Seconding her view, Sararnjay Brahma, president of All Bodo Students Union in Delhi, urged the media to give prominence to the northeast issues.
"Many issues happening in the northeastern region is being covered only by the Northeast channels, which is not known to people in other parts of the county," he said and appealed that their issues be highlighted.
In his speech, Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay demanded increasing the transport connectivity between Northeastern States with others of the country.
