Accused Vikas was arrested today and booked under the Indian Telegraph Act, Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act and Information Technology Act and Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, Circle officer of the Crime Branch Manish Mishra, said.
The Meerut police Crime branch along with officials from IT ministry busted an illegal international call routing racket yesterday in a raid at a rented-flat in Ganganagar here, they said.
In call routing, incoming calls are received in the form of data through the Internet, and are converted back into voice call through VOIP gateways switch. The process bypasses authorised government telecom gateways, leading to revenue loss as well as posing threat to security, according to the police.
Meanwhile, the search for the two main accused, Harish and Nishant, is underway. The racket is under investigation and it is difficult to guess the number of people involved in the crime till they are arrested, Mishra said.
Harish and Nishant have been allegedly operating the illegal 'mini-telephone exchange' racket in their flat, which was organised by the arrested youth Vikas.
