This aspect was important as an individual has to connect with everyone -- children, parents, peers or colleagues -- around them, he said.
Interpersonal communication means a deeper understanding of the problems faced by a child or teacher and the ability to address the same within the school system, he said at the inaugural session of the five-day training for principals of CBSE schools being held at Birla Institute of Management Technology here.
The 'CBSE Effective School Management & Leadership Program' is being jointly organised by Expressions India and BIMTECH under the aegis of CBSE. It is one of the first leadership programmes for CBSE schools principals in Northern India.
"Though significant generational changes had taken place in the mode of learning of children, the methodologies adopted in schools did not reflect the global changes taking place in the teaching-learning process," he said.
He also talked about the recent innovations in the CBSE's policy of child-centric education with focus on the all-round development of students.
The official was of the opinion that recent Plus 2 results have shown a positive outcome.
However, he emphasised that this reform was not to be looked at as a comparison of performance of students in the past vs the present system.
He was of the view that before making reforms in their respective schools, principals should introspect and be convinced about the changes that are to be introduced.
Since children are very sensitive about both positive and negative feedback from teachers, they should be mindful about what and how they speak to students, the official said.
The CBSE Chairman also spoke on the use of technology in school education, which he said had become a game changer and was here to stay.
