Union HRD minister Smriti Irani today said that the Himachal Pradesh government had not so far "provided land" for Kangra Central University but Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh refuted her claim saying that she had been "wrongly briefed" on the issue.
Irani, who was in Kangra for convocation of Kangra Central University had said that the main campus of Central University in Kangra would be build immediately after the state government provided the land.
However, Singh who was also in Kangra said that the remarks ofthe Union minister that the state government was delayingthe setting up of the Central University were "misplaced and far from truthas ahuge tract of land had been identified and selected at Jadrangal near Chamunda temple."
"The government has finalised a huge tract of land at Jadrangal, inupper Dharamsala and the cabinet has also given its nod for the same.
"From the statement of Smriti Irani, thatshe had come to know that thegovernment had not taken any decision on the finalization of land, it appears that she had been wrongly briefed and local BJP leaders have not given her the correct picture," Singh told mediapersons at Kangra.
Singh alleged that the former Vice chancellor of the University was "responsible" for delay as he never pursued the case of the land selected at Jadrangal.
The land at Jadrangal was appropriate for setting up the Central University as it has open tracts and plain areas too.
"The impression conveyed to HRD Minister by local BJP leaders that the terrain is hilly and contains large number of trees, etc is not correct," he said adding that "it was due to BJP MP Anurag Thakur that the construction of CUHP was being delayed."
Singh alleged that Anurag wants the university to be set up at Dehra which falls in Hamirpur parliamentary constituency and for this reason he is opposing the decision of the state government.
