The Income Tax Department today examined documents at premises connected to Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar here in continuation of recent searches it had conducted for alleged tax evasion.
During searches on April 7 last, some materials, including documents and some valuables warranting further examination were tagged for scrutiny at a later date in tune with tax laws.
Such materials were put under prohibitory orders and placed in the premises connected to Vijayabaskar.
The IT sleuths today examined such materials, including documents placed by them in multiple premises under prohibitory orders, Income Tax department sources told PTI.
The examination signifies search and further evaluatory procedures getting to the completion stage, including finalisation of panchnamas wherever warranted.
Also, prohibitory orders are relaxed at that stage and documents and valuables not required for further scrutiny are given back.
The IT department had seized Rs 5.5 crore cash after searches at 50 locations connected to Vijayabaskar and his associates in April.
Incriminating documents were allegedly seized and it was also found that about Rs 89 crore was routed to bypoll-bound R K Nagar. The by-election was cancelled subsequently by the Election Commission.
