An Income Tax department official who was directed to be present in the court today in the disproportionate asset case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today sought more time for his appearance.
The official's counsel filed a memo seeking certain clarifications and gave an undertaking to appear on any day after March 31 before the Special Court judge M S Balakrishna.
On Mar 20, the court had directed the officer to be present before it today and produce certain documents pertaining to the case. A month earlier, it had directed the IT department of Tamil Nadu to produce certain documents.
Three witnesses were further cross examined today. Further recording of evidence of defence witnesses and their cross examination will continue tomorrow.
Jayalalithaa is facing charges that she accumulated wealth of Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate to her known sources of income when she was Chief Minister for the first time from 1991 to 1996.
