In a bid to ensure free and fair assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Election Commission has decided to video record the poll process at various polling stations put under "sensitive and hypersensitive" categories.
"State's Chief Electoral Officer Umang Narula today discussed the issues related to the functioning of web casting during the polls at sensitive and hypersensitive polling stations which would be equipped with video cameras and other gadgets to keep a special vigil on the polling process," an official spokesman said.
He said that the CEO also called for the deployment of adequate number of security forces in the poll-bound areas to restore the confidence of the people.
Chairing a high-level meeting through video conference with all the district election officers, SSPs and Returning Officers, Narula laid stress on ensuring the foolproof security in the poll-bound areas, the spokesman said.
While taking a detailed review of the preparedness of first and second phase of pollings in the state, the CEO called upon various agencies concerned to maintain close coordination among them for achieving tangible results, he said.
The spokesman said "the CEO also directed for timely dispatch of polling parties, security personnel and polling material, especially in the far-flung areas for the smooth conduct of elections".
He directed the agencies concerned to keep a close vigil on the activities of the unscrupulous elements, which can possibly foment trouble in the election process.
The CEO also discussed the issues relating to the arrangements for preservation of EVMs and counting of polls, allotment of symbols to the contesting candidates, MCC violations, updating of migrant voter lists, distribution of EPICs, Photo Voter Identity Slips.
He directed the officials concerned to update the migrant voter lists well before the scrutiny day in next phases.
