J&K Guv to SVO chief: Clear pending corruption cases

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today directed the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) director Muneer Khan to clear all pending cases of corruption without any "fear or favour".
Khan was posted as the SVO chief on February 15 and since then has been intrustmental in the arrest of over a dozen officials allegedly involved in cases of corruption in the state.
The SVO chief called on Governor N N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here yesterday.
The Governor praised Khan for his prompt start and advised him to make systematic efforts to clear all pending cases without any "fear or favour", a spokesman of the Raj Bhawan said.

Khan apprised the Governor about the functioning of the organisation and said that till date, 265 cases are pending.
The major reasons for delay in the disposal of cases include the indifference of the concerned departments in furnishing the related records of cases and stay orders passed by the high court in regard to investigations, Khan told the governor. Other resons listed out by him included production of challans, delay in the proceedings in trial courts and inadequate staff for the prosecution offices of newly created anti-corruption courts.
Vohra said he would discuss the functioning of the Vigilance body with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
