The 37-year-old actor was shooting with Charlize Theron when he ended up damaging the luxury car, reported Femalefirst.
"I crashed a Porsche 911 recently on set. I was meant to be doing a stunt where I fishtail into the middle of the road, open the door and then charge into the street to save Charlize Theron, who has been in another crash," McAvoy said.
Describing the incident the actor said it was "exciting".
"It was an old Eighties Porsche 911 and we were doing handbrake turns, and eventually, on the seventh or eighth time, the brake just didn't work so I kept ploughing ahead towards all the cameramen, who looked slightly terrified.
