Takeshi Osuga, Minister of Political Affairs at the Japanese Embassy in Delhi, and Rytotaro Fujita, the Second Secretary, made the statement during a meeting with Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar here, an official spokesman said.

"It is a matter of great happiness that peace has been restored and we hope it will usher a new era of development in the state," the spokesman quoting the envoys said.

Sagar told the diplomats that it was due to tireless efforts of the government that the peace was restored in the state and now the people are reaping its dividends.

He expressed hope the time is not far away when peace will become a permanent feature.

Referring to the Kashmir issue, Sagar said "our party (National Conference) has always projected autonomy as a viable solution but will accept any other idea within the framework of Indian Constitution or formula which would be acceptable to both the nations as well as people of the state."

The team also met State Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo and discussed issues related to social service and welfare schemes launched in the state.

Itoo apprised the delegation about the various schemes meant for rehabilitation of militancy victims, orphans, destitute and women empowerment, the spokesman said.
