Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said the government was committed to promote sports.
Addressing the 12th Jharkhand State Police Sports Competition at Hotwar here, Das said the government would work towards providing nutrition allowance to sportspersons and would give priority to sportspersons in recruitment in police.
Das hoped these competitions would throw fresh talent.
The CM said football competition would kick off from panchayat and block levels before state level competition would begin for both men's and women's teams on November 15 - the Jharkhand Foundation Day.
Reliance Group's Nita Ambani will sponsor the women's team, while the state will sponsor the men's, Das said.
Any police personnel, upto the rank of inspector, would be promoted to the rank of deputy superintendent of police in the event of winning an international gold or silver medal, Das announced.
Asking sports persons to practice at Khelgaon, which was built for the 2012 national games, for free, Das said the government introduced 33 per cent recruitment of women in the police department.
As the state marked Hul Diwas today, Das remembered how revolution began on this day in 1855 from Jharkhand against the British, adding the fight should also be directed against exploitation and poverty.
Asking the police to take a pledge to deal with the anti-social elements sternly, Das said only peace could usher in prosperity to the state.
Das presented Rs 50,000 to Simdega-based WUSU player Amasi Barla, who had won a gold at a championship held in Georgia, the release said.
Jharkhand police chief D K Pandey, former DGP Kumud Choudhary and several other senior police personnel were present on the occasion.
