JK assembly passes resolution to eradicate drug addiction

The legislative assembly today passed a resolution seeking eradication of drug addiction in the state.
The members also urged the government to take strict action to check the menace and come up with stronger laws to punish drug-peddlers.
The resolution was moved by Congress MLA Banihal Vikar Rasool while Aijaz Ahmad Khan (Congress), Ali Mohammad Sagar (NC), Usman Majid (Congress) and several other Legislators supported it.
Minister for Health Bali Bhagat said drug addiction is dangerous for future generations and that the government has taken various measures including constitution of Special Task Force to curb it.
The Minister called for involving civil society and also constituting Mohalla Committee to address the problem.

Later, the House passed the private members' resolution in this regard by voice vote.
Earlier, Legislator Javid Hassan Beigh moved another resolution demanding that the benefits of backward status be given to the girls from the backward areas for up to seven years after marriage, and that eligibility period be made only seven years instead of 15 years for the girls getting married in backward areas.
