Jammu and Kashmir government employees today deferred their proposed five-day strike after an assurance by the authorities that their demands would be addressed as early as possible.
The assurance came during a meeting of the employees with the Cabinet Sub-Committee, constituted by the government recently, to look into their demands, an official spokesman said.
"The representatives of the Employees Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) have been assured that the state government is seriously looking into their demands," he said.
After getting the assurance, the JCC deferred the strike scheduled to begin today.
The employees have been demanding enhancement of the retirement age, removal of pay anomalies and formulation of a comprehensive policy for casual labourers.
