A group of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists assembled at Residency road here to protest against the burning of the banner on Eid (July 18) which had an Arabic verse written over it, police said.
The cops swung into action and chased away the protesters by resorting to baton charge.
Meanwhile, the independent MLA from Langate and his supporters also tried to take out a procession from Residency road towards Lal Chowk as a mark of protest against the incident, they said.
Curfew was clamped in Rajouri town yesterday after some VHP activists burnt terror outfit IS's flag, leading to protests by minority groups who said that the flag bore religious scripture.
