Gujarat government today announced that US Secretary of State John Kerry will attend the Vibrant Gujarat Summit scheduled to be held next month.
Kerry, who will attend the summit as the official representative of US Government, will be accompanied by US Ambassador to Indian Kathleen Stephens, Gujarat Finance Minister Saurabh Patel said in a press release here today.
A high-level delegation comprising top businessmen and government officials of the United States will also accompany them for the event that will be held between January 11 and 13 in Gandhinagar, the minister added.
"We expect that many top CEOs of US firms, alongwith CEO of MasterCard and president of USIBC Ajay Banga, will attend the summit. The size of the delegation would be around 80 to 90 members," Patel said.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon is also scheduled to attend this global investor meet.
The US became the 8th partner country of the summit. US India Business Council (USIBC) is also the official partner organisation of the event.
This is for the first time the US will take part in the global investor meet. It had not participated in the earlier six editions of the summit.
Narendra Modi had made a maiden visit to the United States as India's Prime Minister in the last week of September this year, while American President Barak Obama is scheduled to visit India as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day function.
