The film is scheduled for Friday September 4 screening, in the Sala Grande venue in the Lido's Palazzo del Cinema, reported Variety.
"Black Mass" is a biopic of Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger, played by Depp, who became an FBI informant and used this status to eliminate criminal competition during the 1970s, '80s, and early '90s.
The film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Joel Edgerton and Peter Sarsgaard in pivotal roles.
Based on the book of Dick Lehr and Gerar O'Neill, the screenplay of the film is by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth of "Get on Up" fame.
The Venice Film Festival will run till September 12.
