India's Joshana Chinappa, the third seed, moved into the women's singles quarter-finals of the USD 15,000 NSCI Open JSW Indian Squash Circuit 2015 today with a straight-game win over Sina Wall of Britain.
Joshana won 11-9 11-4 11-3 against an error-prone rival in 25 minutes.
"It was a good match. The first game was pretty close, but I managed to close it out in three, so that's always good," said Joshana, ranked 24 in the women's circuit.
National men's champion Harinderpal Sandhu, seeded No. 3, also entered the last eight, but only after surviving a tough five-game contest against England's Joel Hinds.
The World No. 56 took the first two games before Hinds fought back to win the next two and force a decider that Sandhu clinched with a 11-2 11-9 7-11 6-11 11-7 verdict in 62 minutes.
"It was a seesaw," said Sandhu after his victory.
"Luckily I was on the high side. I relaxed a bit too much after the first game. In the fifth, I was on top of it from the start and that showed as I got the lead and hung onto it."
Egyptian siblings, Hania and Karim El Hammamy, stormed from the qualifiers into the last eight with wins in today's main draw.
Hania beat Nadine Shahin 3-0 in a quick 22 minutes in the women's draw. Her brother, Karim El Hammamy, had a more gruelling path to the quarters, winning the 50-minute face-off with Tsz Fung Yip of Hong Kong 15-13 11-9 11-7.
Qualifier Lee Ka Yi upset fifth-seed Deon Saffery of Wales to enter the quarter-finals, while Indian wild card Sachika Ingale went down to Egypt's Nouran El Torky, who carved out a 8-11 11-1 11-2 11-2 win in just 20 minutes.
