Journalism is ritual for truth: Rajnath

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said journalism is not an ordinary profession but a "massive ritual for the truth".
"Journalism is not an ordinary work but it is a massive ritual for the truth. The profession does not provide any scope for cheating," Singh said at the second convocation of the Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya here.
Highlighting the importance of cultural values, Singh said, "Through the education, we are able to gather knowledge for the society. Some people utilise their knowledge for wrong purpose so it is not just enough to get knowledge but a person should have a sense of responsibility towards the society. The students should have cultural values along with knowledge."

Citing some foreign intellectuals, he said Indian culture was recognised as supreme in the world and the people should be proud of it.
"I know several so-called progressive people in the country do not accept the fact that Indian culture is the best in the world. But I can give you numerous examples after which anyone will be ready to believe that Indian culture is supreme in the world," he asserted.
With the emergence of social media like Facebook and Twitter, journalism had become more challenging, he said, recalling that the news of the killing of Osama Bin Laden, founder of terrorist group al Qaeda, first appeared on Twitter.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh presided over the function, which was also attended by senior TV journalist Rajat Sharma, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal and state ministers.
