Burdwan Superintendent of Police S N H Mirza said trouble began when the constables of Kolkata police could not find enough number of vehicles to transport them from Bhatar, where they were put on panchayat poll duty, to Swarupnagar in North 24 Parganas.
They blocked the Burdwan-Katwa road and heckled the officer-in-charge of Bhatar police station Sanjay Kundu when he tried to pacify them, he said.
As the two camera persons - one from the audio-visual medium and another from print tried to take their photos the Kolkata Police constables assaulted them and smashed their cameras, he said.
The lensmen later received first aid at a local dispensary.
