The judicial custody of the six persons arrested from Assam's Barpeta district for alleged involvement in the October two Burdwan blast in West Bengal was today extended by a further 14 days.
They were produced in the Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court which remanded them to judicial custody for another 14 days.
They are father-son duo of Shiraj Ali Khan and Shaikhul Islam, Rafikul Islam, Jahuruddin, Golam Osmani and Sarbesh Ali, all residents of different villages in Barpeta district.
The six, arrested on October 10, are allegedly part of a module operating under the Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, according to preliminary investigation.
Shaikhul Islam alias Abdulla is allegedly a key member of the module operating in Assam and an associate of Shakil Ahmed alias Shamin, a JMB activist who died in the Burdwan blast.
Shaikhul had been trained in Jihad in Simulia Madrassa in Burdwan district of West Bengal and also in another Madrassa in Murshidabad, a police spokesman claimed.
Instructions had been allegedly given to Shaikhul to look for potential Muslim youths to be motivated for Jihad.
Deceased Shakil Ahmed had visited Barpeta on several occasions under the cover of conducting garment business for motivating the youths for terrorism, the spokesman said.
An investigation was on to identify members of the module and to arrest them, he said.
Meanwhile, NIA has searched the house of absconding Sahanur Alom alias Doctor, one of the main accused in the Burdwan blast case, in Barpeta district and seized illegal documents, foreign coins and bank passbooks.
NIA has declared a Rs 5 lakh reward to anyone giving information on Alom leading to his arrest.
