Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Kaaminey' actor Rajatava Dutta considers the first ever launch of a Bengali flick by Big B as the coming up of content-rich Bengali films at the global level.
"Amitabha Bachchan finding time among his shooting schedule to unveil the first look of a Bengali film! This had never happened previously. People from our film fraternity had been doing the honours mostly," Rajatava, also having wooed audiences in Kahaani and Khalnayak, told PTI.
Rajatava, who will appear in another gritty Bollywood thriller, was talking to PTI on the sidelines of the programme at a heritage luxury hotel in the city.
"The presence of Shoojit Sircar may have made this possible as he is having such good terms with Mr Bachchan. But this is also an important moment as we are having both Amitabh Bachchan and Shoojit, a formidable director, at the same film event.
"The film can be a first in many ways, first time trailer launch of a Bengali film attended by an internationally known actor, first time a Bollywood director producing a film with mostly fresh faces and first time a frontline music director teaming up with a director of Shoojit's calibre for his debut film," Rajatava said.
Shoojit, who was ecstatic with Big B gracing the occasion and at a loss of words, won't find it disparate to switch over from one genre to another as in his first production about Bengali diaspora 'Aparajita Tumi' preceded the breezy retro-era feel 'Open Tee Bioscope' having a bunch of fresh faces in the Bengali film industry.
"As my directorial ventures are concerned, different subjects need different treatment. It is all about how you communicate with the audience in the language of cinema."
Open Tee Bioscope will be released early next year.
