Johar, 43, took to Twitter and said it was a "hugely emotional day" and thanked the team for making him feel special.
"Was a hugely emotional day for me on the sets of #JhalakReloaded yesterday... Thank you to the entire team for making me feel so special...," he wrote.
Actor Shahid Kapoor, who co-judges the Colors show, tweeted that Johar was irreplaceable on the show.
"@karanjohar you will be sorely missed on the sets of #JhalakReloaded. No one can replace you. Thank you for everything."
Johar started hosting the show from season five in 2012.
Dancer Lauren Gottlieb and choreographer Ganesh Hegde are fellow judges on the show this season, which is hosted by Manish Paul.
Johar's next directorial venture is "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", which stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
