The Karnataka State Bar Council today condemned the "unruly behaviour" of some advocates from Tamil Nadu on High Court premises here during the hearing on bail plea of jailed AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa last Tuesday.
The Council at a meeting here passed a resolution saying that some Tamil Nadu advocates created unruly scenes by shouting slogans against the judges and judiciary of the state High Court which amounted to professional misconduct.
It said raising slogans against the Karnataka judiciary, burning the effigy of judges and "demanding verdict suitable to them was highly condemnable" and amounted to contempt of court.
The Council said it has requested the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu to take appropriate action against the erring advocates, adding, it will not tolerate any such behaviour.
It said relationship between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu should be cordial and any attempt to harm it is condemnable.
The Karnataka High Court had on October 7 rejected the plea for bail of Jayalalithaa, sentenced to four years in jail in the 18-year old disproportionate assets case by the Special Court here.
P P Hegde and Anilkumar J M who were newly elected Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Council respectively took charge today.
