Ker Guv seeks urgent report on attempted suicide of student

Kerala Governor P Sathasivam Tuesday sought an urgent report from the Kerala University Vice-Chancellor on the issue of the attempted suicide by a college student here last week.

The Raj Bhavan, in a release said the governor sought a report from the vice chancellor after it received a petition on the alleged harassment of the first year BsC student of the Department of Physics, University College, Thiruvananthapuram.

It said petitions on the alleged harassment of the student by the college union were received from the Communist Marxist Party and the Kerala Students Union.

An 18-year-old girl was found with her hand slit in the parking area of University College here and purported 'suicide note' was flashed across the TV channels, in which she had allegedly written that she had taken the drastic step due to her stressful state of mind at that point of time.

She also she was unable to study up to her expectations and the student political organisations of the college was forcefully making her participatein various functions.

However, in her statement to the police, she said she did not have a complaint against anyone.

"The girl has said the note was written in a stressful state of mind and that she did not want action taken against anyone," police had said.

The state human rights commission has also registered a suo motu case in the matter and has sought a report from the college principal.
