The Kerala government today said it is actively looking into the feasibility of making recruitment of Kerala nurses seeking employment in the Middle East completely free of cost.
"The Kerala government aims to make a system where recruitments are made completely free of cost. During a preliminary round of discussions with the Kuwait government, it has been decided that the employers will bear the recruitment charge," State Minister for Labour and Skills Shibu Baby John said.
He was speaking after releasing the brochure and prospectus of Nursing Institute of Career Enhancement (NICE), a centre for excellence in nursing under the Kerala Academy of Skill Excellence (KASE) here.
John said this in the wake of the government's move making overseas recruitment of nurses only through government agencies, including ODEPC (Overseas Development and Employment Promotion) and NORKA (Non Resident Keralites Affairs).
The NICE has decided to sign an agreement in this regard with these agencies, he said, adding it would start operations under KASE with an aim to provide world-class training to nurses, which will help them find jobs anywhere in the world.
The Trivandrum Specialists Hospital of NMC Health Care Group, which has a strong hospital network in the Middle East, will lead the training sessions and recruitments of the academy.
The academy will start functioning at Kinfra Apparel Park here on May 20, he added.
