Knife-wielding man attacks nurse in China, detained

A 30-year-old nurse in China has been seriously wounded after she was attacked by a knife-wielding man in Yunnan Province, the latest incident reflecting the distrust between doctors and patients in the country.
Follwing the attack, police detained the 33-year-old man, surnamed Zhang, yesterday.
The man attacked the on-duty nurse at First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University in the provincial capital Kunming, according to local public security bureau.
The nurse, mother of a four-year-old child, is under intensive care at the hospital.
The bureau is investigating reports that the man suffers from psychological disorder, state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.

Police said Zhang did not know the nurse.

The attack comes two days after a similar incident involving an 84-year-old patient who attacked a doctor with a knife at the Fujian Provincial Capital hospital in Fuzhou.
The doctor is in stable condition.
The attacker is said to be unsatisfied with a vocal cord operation he had at the hospital.
Doctor-patient relations in China have been fraught with tension in recent years, as frustration, misunderstanding and dissatisfaction have resulted in violence.
Last month, a man was executed in east Zhejiang Province for fatally stabbing a doctor and wounding two others.
