KVIC vows economic freedom for spinners, weavers

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) today said it will help spinners and weavers of the industry gain economic freedom.
"KVIC reiterates (its resolve) to reach the last man of the sector and it is the only industry which can make possible economic freedom to our nationals," KVIC CEO Arun Kumar Jha said after 70th Independence Day celebrations at its headquarters here.
Jha also spoke of an urgent need to increase production of khadi.
Besides, KVIC is focussing on improving design parameters while bringing out khadi in wool, linen, silk and muslin. A massive marketing drive is also being planned to boost sales of the fabric.

At the same event, MLA Parag Alwani launched tri-colour rakhi and a designer collection of khadi.
The big draw of the day was skit by Rajiv Gandhi college students on Prime Minister's employment generation programme, in addition to demonstration of khadi and village industries activities like live pottery demo, bee-keeping activities and spinning on solar charkha.
The khadi bhavan is offering up to 20 per cent discount on sale of khadi clothes introduced on Independence Day at the 'Khadi India' sales outlet in Mumbai.
