The first of the planned job fair in this series will be organised by the Labour Ministry at its National Career Service Centre in Noida on July 20, a senior official said.
The official said the Labour Ministry has also decided to celebrate National Career Service Day on July 20 every year to promote awareness regarding career opportunities in the country.
The concept of organising job fair is not new but Labour Ministry wants to do it itself as earlier these were organised by local stock exchanges in very limited scope.
"We have tied up with industry chamber CII and India Staffing Federation to provide hold these job fairs. There is no dearth of jobs and job seekers. But we need to bridge the gap between them. These job fairs will do the same," the official said.
Asked how different these jobs will be from traditional job fairs organised by the local employment exchanges, the official said, "These job fairs will bring big employers from across to country to visit states and hire people as per their requirement. The fairs organised by local exchanges and states don't go beyond their respective areas, which limits the scope of job seeker as well as employers."
The Ministry has chosen Jaspur district in Uttarakhand in September to bring employers and job seekers at one platform.
India has over five crore formal sector workers across sectors and about 1.2 crore join the workforce every year. However, just half of the working population, aged over 15 years, is employed.
