Justice (retd) Iqbal Singh met the deputy commissioner and other senior officials at district secretariat here, sources said.

Later, representatives of Bharatiya Kishan Union and Bhoomi Adhigrahan Virodhi Samiti, the body spearheading farmers' movement against the acquisition, apprised him of the alleged police brutalities at the district secretariat on July 16 and at Aasalwas village on July 22.

Justice Singh also met the eight police personnel, who were injured in the July 22 violence.

Justice Singh, along with his entourage, reached Aasalwas village, where he listened to the grievances of the farmers and also met the two injured villagers- Satbir and Om Prakash, who suffered injuries in the alleged police firing on July 22.

He also took stock of the damaged vehicles and doors of houses at Aasalwas village and also inspected the police post at Garhi Bolni Chowk that was set on fire by the mob.

The farmers opposing land acquisition had clashed with police in Aasalwas village here.

Over 60 people, including 40 police personnel, were injured as the villagers opposing the acquisition of 3,300 acres of land in 16 villages for setting up of an industrial estate by HSIIDC, resorted to violence.
