D Vinothkumar, hailing from Paruthithurai village in Jaffna District, was arrested after a group of local fishermen found him proceeding toward Sri Lanka and brought him to this coastal town in Nagapattinam District, police said.
He had entered into the country on April 26 by an illegal ferry and stayed in Velankanni near here. He had befriended fisherman Sivanandham and had gone for fishing with him once.
After winning his confidence, he took Sivanandham's boat without informing him with the intention of going to Sri Lanka. But, midway his boat ran out of diesel and was stranded.
Vedaranyam DSP Asaithambi arrested the Lankan national after initial interrogation. He was produced before a local court which remanded him to judicial custody.
