Law and order has improved in JK, says outgoing DGP

Outgoing Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Ashok Prasad today said the increased police-public interaction over the past two years had resulted in successful operations against militants and improved law and order situation in the valley.
"Over the past two years, public-police interaction has increased. Our operations, be it against militancy or on the law and order front, have been successful due to the people's cooperation," Prasad told reporters here after he was given a farewell at Zewan Police Complex.
Prasad will join as Special Director, Intelligence Bureau, in Delhi.
On the level of violence in Kashmir Valley during the two years of his tenure, Prasad said it had decreased substantially.

"The level of violence in 2012 and 2013 has been the lowest since 1990. There were 122 incidents in 2012 and 114 in 2013.
"There has been improvement in law and order management. The inter-agency coordination has also increased," the DGP said.

On the increased violence during the recent Lok Sabha elections in the state, he said it was "artificial violence" induced by some elements to create fear among the voters.
"One particular section threatens violence, then there is boycott call and stone-pelting. Our effort has been to control this situation so that people can vote freely," the DGP said.'

Prasad said though infiltration is domain of the army, it seems to have decreased in view of the drop in violence levels in the state.
"Last year there were less than 100 infiltration bids and our aim is to reduce it further," he said.
