The head of a Libyan militia that has shut down most of the country's oil terminals for months says they will remain closed despite an earlier promise to reopen them following mediation.
Ibrahim Jedran, leader of the militia in eastern Libya, accused the government of corruption today. He said the central government has failed to meet demands put forth by his group as condition for reopening the terminals.
The terminals' closure this summer has cost the government millions of dollars. Influential leaders from al-Magharba tribe in eastern Libya had negotiated an agreement with the central government, whereby Jedran agreed to reopen the terminals today.
Jedran said the government failed to meet his demands, which included investigating corruption in oil sales, and distributing oil revenues regionally.
