Judge M P Subramanian, who had on Monday convicted A. Murugan of double murder and rape, sentenced him to three life terms -- two for murder and another for rape -- to run concurrently.
The prosecution case was that A Murugan (30), a casual labourer, had committed the crime as the 17-year old girl had spurned his advances.
In July 2008, he came to the house of the girl with the intention of sexually assaulting her. When the girl's mother resisted him, he hacked her to death with a sickle.
Then he raped the girl and strangulated her using her dupatta. Later, he threw the body in a bush in the area. Police investigated the case and arrested Murugan.
