Lifer in murder case granted parole

Sant Ram, a lifer in the fashion designer Kunjum Budhiraja murder case, was today granted four weeks parole by the Delhi High Court.
A bench of Justice Veena Birbal granted Sant Ram four weeks parole on the ground of death of his grandmother.
Sant Ram was sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court in 2008 in the case.
Congress leader Romesh Sharma was also sentenced to life term in the case but was acquitted by the high court in 2009.
Appearing for Sant Ram, advocate Avninder Singh today submitted before the bench that his client has been in jail for 15 years and has availed parole only once before.
His plea for parole was oppposed by the prosecution which said Sant Ram had committed offence under section 341 IPC (wrongful restraint) when he was given the relief earlier.
Singh, however, said Sant Ram has already been released on sentence undergone in that case.
Kunjum was mudered at a farmhouse in Mehrauli on March 20, 1999.
