"Getting more and more support from the younger generations of people for BJP will be a priority. I see the new responsibility as a challenge," he said, soon after the party made the announcement.
The party's organisation in the state is strong and competent and he will work to strengthen it further to take on the Nitish Kumar government, the 50-year-old first-time Lok Sabha MP said outside Parliament.
People, he said, are supporting BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership like never before following the demonetisation decision.
"I am seeing a popular support for demonetisation which I have never witnessed for any decision of a government in the past," he said.
