Stepping up its attack on the Delhi government over its liquor policy and issuing of alcohol licenses to 399 vends, the Swaraj Abhiyan today sought intervention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita over the issue.
Group of women protesters from Swaraj Abhiyan also sought a meeting with Sunita at Chief Minister's 6, Flagstaff Road residence. Sources, however, said there was no meeting between Sunita and the women protesters.
In a letter to Sunita, Swaraj Abhiyan urged her to give "good sense" to the Chief Minister.
"If possible, please put forth our request before Arvind ji. He could, perhaps, listen to you because he has not been able to understand our point...Otherwise in a span of one and half years he would not have given 399 alcohol licenses in Delhi.
"He (Kejriwal) perhaps does not understand that earning money out of liqour is not a good thing," the letter said.
Kejriwal is away to attend the canonisation of Mother Teresa at the Vatican City.
Swaraj Abhiyan has been attacking the Kejriwal government for allegedly issuing 399 alcohol licenses. It has also been holding public hearings against vends, which it claimed, were opened without the consent of locals.
It will hold a similar public hearing demanding closure of a liquor vend at Burari tomorrow.
