NDA ally LJP today welcomed HRD ministry's decision to set up a Judicial Commission to look into the suicide of a dalit scholar at Hyderabad University, saying a "time bound" investigation will strengthen students' faith in the government.
"LJP welcomes judicial probe in Rohith Vemula murder case and thank the Prime Minister for this," Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Ram Vilas Paswan said on Twitter.
Paswan's son Chirag Paswan, who is a Lok Sabha MP and Chairman of LJP's Parliamentary Board, said the committee should give its report in a fixed time frame so that all the persons responsbile for Rohith's suicide are punished.
"Ever since the suicide of Rohith, we had been demanding investigation by an independent agency. LJP believes that setting up a judicial enquiry will soothe fraying tempers and agitating students will now have greater faith in the government's committment to an impartial inquiry.
"We hope that all the facts will come out after this probe and all those, who are responsible for Rohith's suicide will be punished. It should be a time bound investigation so that responsibility is fixed without any delay," the LJP MP said.
He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his speech in Lucknow in which the latter said he felt the "pain" of Rohith's suicide.
"The Prime Minister has spoken with solemnity and seriousness on this sensitive issue. I thank him for putting forth his views on it," he said.
Based on the report by a fact-finding team, the HRD Ministry today decided to set up a Judicial Commission to look into the sequence of events leading to the suicide of Rohith.
