MTV announced the line-up that also included Fifth Harmony, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Shawn Mendes and Katy Perry, who also will host this year's VMAs, that will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, California, on August 27, reported Rolling Stone.
This year, MTV has eliminated gender-specific categories, combining the best female and male video awards into "artist of the year".
This time around, Kendrick Lamar - who with eight nominations is the top VMA contender - will go head-to-head for the award show's prestigious top honour with Bruno Mars, the Weeknd, Alessia Cara and DJ Khaled.
