Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar will be the special Guest of Honour for the First International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations in New York on June 21.
The event will be held in the presence of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj along with Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravishankar.
Ambassadors of 193 member countries of the UN are also likely to attend the function.
"I am among the distinguished guests. I feel extremely honoured and privileged to be a part of something like this. Yoga has been an Indian heritage. I am really overwhelmed by the invite I have received and looking forward to be there," Bhandarkar told PTI.
The 46-year-old "Fashion" director said he is happy to represent the Indian film industry at the global platform.
Bhandarkar feels film celebrities, especially actors have an important contribution to social and health causes because of their popularity.
"Bollywood has always stepped in whenever there has been any cause. Yoga concerns health and a celebrity's presence matters in such a case as people identify with them, especially actors.
"They are role models for people. Art has no boundary and films are a global thing now. Indian cinema has an international recognition. So, I feel great to be a part of this cause," he said.
Stressing on the importance of Yoga, the filmmaker said it should be made a way of life.
"Life has become too stressful nowadays. The days are hectic, so, if in between we include a few exercises, it will be really helpful," said the "Page 3" director, who is a self-confessed fitness enthusiast.
Bhandarkar is also likely to travel to Times Square immediately after the UN celebrations to address the crowd.
